Dr John Goodlad graduated MBChB from Aberdeen Medical School in 1986 and MD in 1994.  He undertook post-graduate training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, working closely with Professor Christopher Fletcher in the Soft Tissue Tumour Unit and Dr Philip McKee in Dermatopathology, as well as spending time at St John’s Institute of Dermatology. Between 1996 and 2005 he worked as a Consultant Pathologist/Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.  He moved to the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh in 2005 as Consultant Pathologist/Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, where he is Head of Haematopathology and a member of the Dermatopathology Specialist Team.  He also holds a part-time Senior Clinical Research Fellowship with the University of Dundee, based in the Centre for Oncology and Molecular Medicine.  His routine and referral diagnostic practice, and research interest, centre on haematological malignancy, with a particular interest in skin lymphoma.  Current grant funded investigations centre on the genetic basis of lymphoma pathogenesis and classification, the role of the microenvironment in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and the genetics of Langerhan cell histiocytosis.  Dr Goodlad is an examiner for the RCPath.  He sits on the Editorial Board of Clinical Oncology and is currently co-authoring two chapters (“Cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders” and “Specialized techniques in dermatopathology”) in the forthcoming edition of   McKee’s Pathology of the Skin, Fourth Edition; Eds. Calonje E, Brenn T, Lazar A and McKee P.  He regularly lectures at national and international departmental meetings and courses.
